Keep your Bebe Bayou in a Sling!
Hi ! My name is Hope Diez and this little blog is for those of you interested in "attachment parenting". You might ask yourself ... who is not attached to their baby? But the theory is that by "wearing" your baby you have a closer bond with them and it is soothing to the baby... and in turn...YOU!
I, myself, had never heard this phraseology until my daughter Robyn introduced me to it! When she gave birth to my beautiful granddaughter this new world of attachment parenting was brought to my attention.
Robyn's ideas were put into action when she and I started making the Mei Tai (or Asian Baby Carriers) for her website Bayou Bebe in 2005.
Robyn took great pains in picking out beautiful combinations of materials and sold them online. I enjoyed making these little masterpieces where my creative side got to play.

So with that said... I will show you some of our designs.
This was our 1st Mei Tai - it was reversible as you can see.
Each Mei Tai is 100% cotton, so it is easy to care for and the baby
doesn't retain heat that is associated with polyester based materials.
The fabric choices are limited only by your imagination and the actual amount of fabric needed is really minimal.

As you can see you can use Toile or almost any drapery fabric that strikes your fancy... as long as it is cotton!
Straps need to be a good cotton... the quilting section of the fabric store is your best bet for an unlimited color selection.

We made "man" carriers as well... unfortunately I couldn't find the photos... camo, motorcycles, john deere, and of course... recently my lovely daughter-in-law Jessica ordered an LSU one.
We have made "winter" carriers... using the Minkie soft fabric as a liner... paisley fabric and yellow Minkie above.

We triple stitch and secure anything and everything! Let me put it this way ... there is no way I would send out a carrier that I wouldn't first put my grandchild in!
This one I did leg cutouts and while it worked it seemed to be more trouble than it was actually worth! Since the whole thing is cotton, there is a certain amount of rugged comfort in the carrier that seems to find it's own happiness in the give and take area as the baby grows.
If you are interested in having me create you a Mei Tai you can email me at:

The charge is $45 per carrier.....plus shipping and handling ......you provide the fabrics.... or for the cost of the fabrics I can provide

Butter Pea Baby Carrier
I recently made a Butter Pea Baby Carrier for my new grandson ... actually it was for his dad, my son Matt!
Of course I made it reversible and also out of 100% cotton fabric.
I am hoping to get a photo of it soon. It was made with pirate fabrics, which I understand my daughter-in-law and son caught flack from the fabric store for not getting "baby" fabric. But it was fun!
And like I said there is no limit .... only your imagination.... Kind of like Spongebob and the Box!
I charge $25 plus shipping and handling and you supply the fabric.... or I can supply the fabric at cost.
